When you think of planting, you may not have thought outside the flower box before. Here are four creative ways to display and grow your plants indoors or outdoors:
1. Check your poinsettia's soil before buying. It should be neither dripping wet nor totally dry.
2. Protect your poinsettia from the wind and make sure to wrap it up warm for the journey home.
3. Room temperature in the low seventies is ideal with plenty of light and no cold drafts.
4. Poinsettias do not like a lot of water. A cup or so every couple days should be sufficient. Their colorful pot liners do not allow drainage so make sure your plant is not sitting in water.
To use as a cut flower: Cut the bracts off your plant, dip the cut ends in boiling water for 20 seconds and then immediately in cold water. Your leaves should stay vibrant and red for up to a week. Then, just arrange in a vase with or without other fresh flowers or greenery.
